Vizcaya, Historic Estate ideal Venue for any Events

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The historic estate known as Vizcaya was the winter residence of James Deering, who at the time of construction, was a retired millionaire. Deering was afflicted with pernicious anemia and was prescribed sunshine and a warm climate by doctors. It was at Vizcaya where Deering hoped to restore his health.

The estate was built in the Coconut Grove area of Miami, Florida between 1914 and 1922. It was built to accentuate the nature that surrounded it. Deering wanted Vizcaya to be seen and approached from the sea it faced; much of the estate’s architecture leads visitors to the ocean. The estate itself is a fantastic blend of appreciation of the past, but embraces technology, modernity and comfort.

Vizcaya’s name stems from Deering’s idea of creating a myth that the estate was named after an explorer. He learned of a Spanish merchant named Vizcaino, who had explored the Americas in the early 1600s. Rather than Vizcaino, Deering told Paul Chalfin Deering’s artistic director and land agent. that he wanted to modify the name and call his estate “Vizcaya.”

In 1952, Vizcaya was opened as the Dade County Art Museum within the County’s Park and Recreation Department his nieces conveyed the estate to Miami-Dade County. Deering’s descendants donated everything from art collections to transferring the building and its ground to the county.

Time flies, but Vizcaya continues to bring visitors from all over to appreciate the preservation, beauty and history of the estate. This “Miami treasure” is the perfect location to host your special event or spend an important day.
