Iron Fork Miami

Iron Fork 2017, serviced by YML Portable Restrooms

The Iron Fork event in South Florida draws thousands of food lovers from across Miami to watch two of the city’s finest chefs go “pot-to-pot in a sizzling showdown for supremacy.” The event was hosted by the Miami New Times at the Hyatt Regency in Miami, Florida.

With such a crowd, past participants were bound to show up; some of the locations sampling at the event were Toro Toro, Rusty Pelican, Mr. Chow, 180 Degrees at the DRB, Morton’s Steakhouse and Cibo Wine Bar. New additions included Beaker and Gray, Meat Market, Pubbelly Sushi and Tacology.

Iron Fork isn’t all about food – there’s plenty of drinks to enjoy as well. Various brands of drinks, like Estrella Damm, VOGA Italia wine and Barton & Guestier wine were enjoyed alongside a variety of entertainment.
But of course, talking about the Iron Fork event is nothing without talking about the two professional chefs that battled for the Iron Fork Skillet. Chef Brian Nasajon is a Miami native and chef/owner at Beaker & Gray, he embraced the kitchen while away from Miami for school, and that love for cooking brought him back to the pursue it wholeheartedly. Nasajon sharpened his skills and focused on the “arts and sciences of flavor development, menu creation and dish composition.” His focus is on an “ingredient-driven menu and global dishes with unique spins.”
Chef Santiago Gomez on the other hand, was born in Mexico City and offers a “playful, yet sophisticated approach to Mexican cuisine.” He the Executive Chef at Tacology and attended culinary school when he was younger after being inspired by his work as a deliveryman for a local seafood distributor, where he observed the chefs who worked around him. Gomez has worked in many different restaurants, picking up knowledge from each one, ultimately creating his “refreshing dining concept” that puts food and fun hand in hand.

Two student chefs were also named finalists for the Iron Fork Student Chef Competition: Brianna Long and Lyanette Vega.
